I thought since I was at a training about the Iditarod Trail I should probably hike the portions in Girdwood. I went downtown and was really surprised to find a renovated historic goldmine town about 3 miles up. It was obviously a tourist attraction but very quaint with flower beds, picnic tables and lots of opportunities to pan for gold. I think that's how the owners make their money. You could continue on the Iditarod from there to Crow Pass Mine but because of the rain and clouds, I just turned around.
